Over the coming weeks we are going to be interviewing some of our prenatal and postnatal Pilates clients to hear about their journeys. This week the spotlight is on prenatal fitness. I am so impressed that these dedicated ladies have kept up their prenatal fitness online post our studio closing two weeks ago that I felt compelled to share their stories.
Our very first prenatal mumma to be is Maddy, a 32 year old doctor who works in geriatrics. She is married with a fur baby and her first baby is due next month in May. Maddy has been a client of Premium Pilates & Fitness since April 2019. Thanks for sharing Maddy!
What made you get into Pilates?
I initially got into Pilates to improve my core strength and general toning while doing triathlon training. I found it very helpful for this as well as helping to improve my posture and general strength and flexibility. When I fell pregnant Pilates seemed like a great way to keep up my prenatal fitness as well as being a form of exercise I could maintain through my whole pregnancy and afterwards ( especially when I was no longer able to do triathlon training).
What do you love most about Premium Pilates and Fitness's online prenatal Pilates classes ?
I love that I have this opportunity to keep up my prenatal fitness and strength whilst the studio is closed due to the COVID19 pandemic. I can do the online prenatal classes in the comfort of my own home and at whatever time of day suits me. The classes are very well instructed so that I feel confident throughout the workout and all the workout equipment used in the video are things that you will already have around the house (e.g. using a chair to sit on if you do not have a pilates ball).
What's your favourite thing about Pilates?
I love that it helps me to feel strong and toned. The prenatal Pilates benefits are great. I also find that aside from the physical benefits it is great for stress relief (it is something that is so important for everyone right now especially pregnant women!). It is so important to keep active and look after our health even more so now we are all stuck at home.
What would you tell those prenatal mums to be out there that are a little scared to exercise whilst pregnant?
I would say that actually it is recommended for you to keep fit and active during pregnancy. Premium Pilates have guided me through each trimester by providing me with adjusted and safe workouts during each stage of my pregnancy. I always feel confident and safe in their classes and in fact I think keeping active with Premium Pilates through my pregnancy has increased my body confidence even though I am now in my third trimester. Healthy mum= healthy baby!
It is also so so important to look after your pelvic floor pre and post pregnancy. My job involves looking after older ladies with incontinence issues which can be often be related to pregnancy and birthing issues, therefore I know all about the pelvic floor! Premium Pilates & Fitness classes certainly help to ensure you keep your pelvic floor strong throughout pregnancy ( as well as the rest of you!)
Will you do Pilates postnatally?
I will definitely be doing pilates postnatally. Due to the state of the world currently it looks like I will be tuning in to online postnatal pilates with Premium Pilates & Fitness! I think it is so important to try and keep active in all stages of life and I feel very supported by Premium Pilates & Fitness to do this both during my pregnancy and afterwards.
We love you Maddy! Thank you for taking the time to share your prenatal journey with us. We wish you all the best with your last month of pregnancy! To find out more about our online prenatal Pilates classes, click here: https://premiumpilates.com.au/online-content/
