One of the most common questions we get from new clients is: what should I wear to Pilates?

What you wear to class can genuinely impact how you move and feel during your workout! There’s a few things to consider when choosing the right outfit for your Pilates class – so here's what we recommend and some of our favourite workout brands to move in at PPF!

What to Wear to Pilates

Pilates is all about controlled movement, alignment and flow. Your clothing should support that!

We recommend:

  • Comfortable, form-fitting activewear (leggings, bike shorts, fitted tanks or crops)
  • Stretchy fabrics that allow full range of motion
  • Breathable, moisture-wicking materials
  • Nothing too loose or baggy that could get caught or hide your form from your instructor (in case it needs correction!)
  • Grip socks (essential for safety!)

Grip socks aren’t optional – they are a must have! They provide traction on smooth equipment, prevent slipping during movements like lunges and planks, improve stability and foot alignment, and act as a hygienic barrier on shared equipment. We stock MoveActive and PPF grip socks in all studios so you’re always covered!

Now here’s some of the workout brands we LOVE to move in...

Sunfox Active: The Softest Bike Shorts Ever

If you love buttery-soft, ultra-comfy activewear that doesn’t budge, Sunfox is a PPF favourite. We are also currently hosting a pop-up collab, so you can browse the collection in all our studios!

Their Aria bike shorts are genuinely some of the comfiest we’ve worn. The length is perfect, they don’t ride up (even in Strength & Cardio), and they come in the dreamiest colours, we are particularly obsessed with the blue and purple! The fabric feels smooth, supportive and made for movement.

Pair them with the matching Aria high-performance crop and you have a set that stays put through everything.

Sunfox is an Australian brand focused on creating flattering, functional activewear that feels good on real bodies. It’s supportive without being restrictive, which is exactly what you want in Pilates!

The Upside: Sporty Meets Studio-to-Brunch

If you love activewear that looks just as good outside the studio as it does inside, The Upside is for you.

Their pieces are sporty but also fashionable lifestyle wear. Think animal prints, bold stripes and iconic branded tanks. We constantly see clients walking into class in The Upside and heading straight to coffee after.

Their long leggings with side stripes are a standout. They make legs look so long and feature high waistbands that feel secure and supportive during Pilates. High-rise bands are ideal for core-focused classes because they move with you and stay comfortable through flexion, extension and rotation.

Bonus: they often have great sales, so you can invest in quality pieces without the guilt.

Kiss Active: Designed for Mamas

Pilates is such a powerful form of movement during pregnancy and postpartum and Kiss Active was created specifically with mamas in mind.

This Australian-based, female-founded brand specialises in luxury pregnancy and postpartum activewear, particularly nursing sports bras. Founded by Anna, a long-distance runner and mother of five, Kiss Active was designed to support women through the most wonderful (and exhausting) season of motherhood.

Their nursing bras are beautiful, functional and available in so many colours. The high-rise shorts offer gentle support through the waist, and their oversized tees (complete with cute mum slogans) are perfect for layering before or after class.

If you’re navigating pregnancy or postpartum, choosing supportive, thoughtfully designed activewear makes all the difference in how comfortable and confident you feel in class.

Final Thoughts: Keep It Simple

If you’re wondering what to wear to Pilates, keep it simple:

Fitted leggings or bike shorts.
A supportive tank.
Breathable fabric.
Grip socks.

When you feel comfortable in what you’re wearing, you show up differently. You move with more confidence. You focus on the work, not adjusting your shorts mid-set.
