Hi PPF community! I’m Jacqui, instructor and admin helper at the studios. I’d love to share my podcast recommendations with you!
I only got into podcasts a couple of years ago, so I’m behind a little! I love the ease of being able to put something on and be taken away on an interesting an educational experience whilst doing something as mundane as folding the washing!
What I really like about podcasts is the opportunity to learn and broaden my knowledge and mindset. I like to listen to podcasts that are positive, empowering and to some extent educational. Whether that be learning about a topic, movement, or person I never knew about, expanding on ideas and beliefs or learning a new language (I love discovering a new word and putting it into context and adding to my vocabulary).
So, here are my top 5 podcast recommendations and what it is that I love about them. Please be warned if you’re anything like me podcasts and amazon prime are mutually exclusive! Meaning that I often find myself purchasing the book discussed in the episode – I have to say I haven’t been disappointed yet!
Happy Place with Fearne Cotton
I love this podcast as it is all about what makes you happy and we all need that! Fearne talks to an array of people from musicians, actors, athletes, Doctors, Psychologists, monks and authors, just to name a few! They discuss life, love, loss and what happiness is to them. It is an uplifting and inspiring listen. My favourite episodes are Series 1 Episode 7 in which Zephyr Wildman talks about dealing with loss. Fearne’s episodes with Russell Brand & Hozier are also really interesting.
Dare to Lead with Brene Brown
Brene Brown is a Research Professor that has spent the last two decades researching vulnerability, shame and empathy. I highly recommend watching her Ted Talk on Netflix ‘The Call to Courage’. Simply, her theory is:
“I believe you have to walk through vulnerability to get to courage, therefore … embrace the suck.”
Her podcast features her own solo conversations as well as chats with rule breaking, culture changing and outside the box thinkers. These conversations challenge the status quo to help innovate and create a better and more just world through daring leadership in all walks of life; work, home and community.
Under the Skin with Russell Brand
Russell Brand is an English Comedian amongst his many other talents. What I love about Russell’s podcast is that he is very honest and open about his past issues with mental health and recovering from an array of addictions. In his podcast, Brand explores what is beneath the surface of those we admire. He challenges the ideas of the constructed reality we have created with such flare and passion.
I also love the language that he uses and have to google a word he has used nearly every episode to add to my vocabulary! Brand interviews an array of people from the world of academia, popular culture and the arts. I highly recommend episode #168 Holocaust Survivor: ‘Is History Repeating itself?’ with Dr Edith Eger and #117 'Untethered Soul & Surrendering' with Michael Singer.
Delicious Ways to Feel Better: Deliciously Ella
This podcast features a wife and husband duo that run a successful health food and recipe business. They talk to an array of guests about anything and everything from the science of happiness, love and relationships to friendship, sisterhood and jealousy. Their chats involve changing perspective and forming a more positive mindset for a happier life. Recommended episodes include: 'The Science of Happiness' and 'Why is Exercise Good for Us?'
Super Soul with Oprah Winfrey
These interviews from people of all walks of life are designed to inspire you! They are deeply thought-provoking interviews that make you question concepts and awaken new beliefs. My episode recommendations: Father Richard Rohr: 'The Universal Christ' and Tara Westover: 'Educated'.
I hope you find some gems and enjoy these as much as I do! We would love to hear your recommendations.
