Holidays are fast approaching. Depending on your personality, holidays can either be stressful or relaxing. Relaxing if you're able to unwind and enjoy the finer things. For example, relaxing with some music, wine and a cheese plate. However, if you're like me and you love your routine, holidays can get stressful! The thought of eating all day and staying stationary sends my cortisol levels through the roof!
Having said that, it is important to try and unwind, and embrace the musings of the stress-free individuals out there. Therefore, this holiday period, I am going to try and implement a few tips and tricks to make my holidays more enjoyable. Hopefully, they can inspire you too!
5 Tips for a stress free holiday period
- A moment on the lips is NOT forever on the hips. Despite what Rachael's sister says in Friends. Enjoy what you eat! Food is meant to be enjoyed. Especially with family and friends.
- Take 5! After you've finished your first serve of food, have a 5 minute break. Remember, our satiety hormones take a bit of time to kick in. You may be full without knowing it. So 5 minutes should give your body time to help you decide.
- There's always tomorrow. Xmas day is hectic and goes quickly. If you don't get in your daily exercise, remain calm! Tomorrow is another day and there is plenty of time.
- If you need some time, take it! Being around people all day is stressful for me. So I will endeavour to take myself away for 5 to 10 minutes if I need to. This will help keep me sane and be more enjoyable for others.
- Finally, eat dessert! Dessert is amazing! Don't neglect yourself during the holidays because you think it might derail your fitness goals. Getting back on track is easy. However, if you need some help or extra motivation, please feel free to contact me!
So there are my 5 tips! Remember, you shouldn't feel guilty about eating food. Try to avoid labelling food as good or bad. It just is. Once we all realise this, we will be much happier for it.
Have a wonderful holiday period! I will be attempting to write something new and interesting each week :)
