So You’ve Booked Your First Barre Class at Premium Pilates & Fitness – How Exciting!
Welcome! You will love the upbeat atmosphere, vibey tunes, and the super fun (and challenging!) movements in your barre class. But before you step into the studio, you might be wondering what to bring, what to wear, and what to expect. Don't worry—I've got you covered!
I'm Zoe, a PPF barre-trained instructor, and I'm here to answer all your questions and help you get ready for an amazing experience!

What to Bring to a Barre Class
1. Grip Socks (optional but helpful)
You’ll need a pair of socks. Grippy socks will be particularly helpful for the smooth floors at PPF's Coorparoo and Milton barre studios.
2. A Water Bottle
Barre classes can get your heart pumping! You’ll be working up a sweat and need to stay hydrated throughout the class. Bring a water bottle, and don’t worry—you can refill it at the studio’s water cooler during breaks.
3. An Open Mind
One of the things I love most about barre is how it challenges both your body and mind. Barre combines elements from ballet, Pilates, and functional strength training, giving you a fun, unique workout. You don’t need to be a dancer or have Pilates experience to join—simply arrive ready to move and embrace something new!
4. A Towel (Optional)
If you’re someone who tends to get a little sweaty, feel free to bring a small towel. Some clients like to wipe down between exercises, especially after those intense leg sequences!

What to Wear to Your Barre Class
Now let’s discuss the best clothing choices for barre classes. You’ll want to wear something that’s comfortable and allows you to move freely.
1. Breathable Activewear
Barre will get your body moving, so make sure you wear something that breathes! Lightweight tank tops, shorts, or leggings work best. If you get hot easily, choose breathable fabrics to keep you cool. And if you're unsure, you can always bring layers that you can take off as the class progresses.
2. Stretchy Clothing
You’ll be doing lunges, squats, and lots of arm movements, so wear something that stretches with you. You don’t want anything too tight that limits your range of motion.
3. Hair Tie
Trust me, you will feel much more comfortable with your hair off your face and neck! It’ll help you stay focused and comfortable, especially when you’re bending, twisting, and reaching.

❌ What You Don’t Need to Bring
1. Props from Home
You don’t need to bring any barre class equipment from home. We’ve got you covered at all PPF Barre studios Brisbane. Everything you need for the class—weights, resistance bands, and more—is available at the studio. Your instructor will guide you on which props to use and how to get the best out of them.
2. A Mat
No need to bring your own mat either! We provide mats for the last portion of the class, where we focus on abdominal work and stretching. Plus, at the end of the class, we offer antibacterial wipes so you can clean your mat and props.
💡 Extra Tips and Recommendations
1. Fuel Up Before Class
Barre classes are high-energy, so you’ll need to make sure you’ve got the energy to power through. If you’re attending an early morning barre class, try a light snack or a protein smoothie to sip on during the session. It’s all about finding what works for your body!
2. Go at Your Own Pace
Don't feel pressured to match the pace of others in the class. Listen to your body, take breaks when you need to, and modify movements if necessary. Every body is different, and it’s important to move in a way that feels right for you on that day.
3. Have Fun!
The best part about barre is that it’s fun! I love playing happy songs like Kylie, J-Lo, and classic hits from the 2000s. You might find yourself smiling and maybe even singing along as you move. While we focus on alignment, form, and breathing, remember to have fun and celebrate how amazing your body is!
